Biography
Franklin Sandoval, DMA, is an Adjunct Professor of Cello at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He also teaches at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department and Cincinnati Music Village.
His performance experience includes appearances at festivals and institutions such as the New World Symphony, Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival, Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival, Jacksonville Cello Workshop, Interlochen Arts Camp, Meadowmount School of Music, Ascent International Cello Festival, and the Escuela Nacional de Música de El Salvador.
A Salvadoran-American cellist and Suzuki-registered educator, Sandoval is dedicated to promoting Latin American music. His research explores the region’s concert, folkloric, and popular music traditions, with particular emphasis on El Salvador. His latest recording project, El Cello Cuscatleco, features major works for cello by Salvadoran composers and reflects his commitment to documenting and sharing El Salvador’s musical heritage. In addition to premiering and recording works by Latin American composers, Sandoval regularly returns to El Salvador to perform, teach, and collaborate with students and institutions, fostering cultural exchange and expanding access to music education. Fluent in Spanish, his broader scholarly interests include string pedagogy, immigration, history, and inclusion.
Sandoval holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where he completed a cognate in musicology as a NEXT Graduate Fellow in 2026. He previously earned a Master of Music in Performance from Miami University and a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the University of North Florida.
