Biography
Heather MacPhail has been Staff Accompanist at Miami University since 1997. She is the pianist for Miami, a faculty trio of clarinet, violin and piano. She coaches undergraduate and graduate piano majors in accompanying, and performs in master classes and recitals with students, faculty, and guest artists. Ms. MacPhail has been the piano accompanist for the Cincinnati May Festival Chorus since 1990. In addition, she currently serves as Music Assistant to Robert Porco, Director of the Chorus, often preparing the May Festival Summer Chorus for performances at Riverbend with the Cincinnati Pops. She is a frequent keyboardist with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, performing on all keyboards.
MacPhail has been organist at Westwood First Presbyterian Church since 1992, and Director of Music Ministries since March, 2008. There, she directs the Chancel Choir as well as the Golden Bells. She is a regular performer on the Westwood First Concert Series as piano and organ soloist, accompanist, and conductor. Ms. MacPhail is active as recitalist throughout the Cincinnati area, performing for many local concert series, including Christ Church Glendale, Holy Trinity Episcopal in Covington, Oxford Presbyterian, and Oxford United Methodist (Ginx Peck Memorial Series). Recent solo organ performances include the Poulenc Organ Concerto (with Hamilton-Fairfield Orchestra) and the Saint-Saens Organ Symphony (with Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra). She has also performed as piano soloist with the Oxford String Quartet, Miami University Orchestra and Central Ohio Symphony Orchestra. Ms. MacPhail maintains a private teaching studio for piano and organ.
MacPhail holds a Master of Music degree in accompanying and a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She was a faculty member of the College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department for over fifteen years.
