Biography
John Miller is a tubist and low brass instructor based in the Cincinnati area, he is currently Co-Principal tuba of the Jackson Symphony Orchestra (MI), and Visiting Instructor of Tuba and Euphonium at Miami University. He performs regularly as a substitute for the Cincinnati Symphony, Kentucky Symphony, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, and is a member of the Cincinnati Brass Band.
As a native of central Florida, Miller has had a wide and varied career in music before coming to the midwest. During his time in Florida, he was a guest tuba for the Venice Symphony, Lakeland Symphony, Ocala Symphony, Florida Wind Band, Gainesville Pops, and Tampa Brass Brand. He also spent two years as an athletic band instructor at Vanguard High School, and regularly taught lessons and coached chamber music for students in the central Florida area. John also freelanced as a bassist performing various genres from Pop, Jazz and Rock.
Throughout the south and the midwest, Miller has played and collaborated with many world renowned musicians, groups and conductors such as the Canadian Brass, Renee Fleming, Warren Haynes of The Allman Brothers Band, Ben Folds, Lauren Jelencovich, Clara-Jumi Kang, Louis Langree, John Morris Russell, Christian Reif, and Troy Quinn.
Miller received a B.M. from the University of South Florida, M.M. from Miami University (OH). His primary teachers include Chris Olka, Joseph Alvarez, and John Ash.
