Stephen Ullery (M.M., College-Conservatory of Music, 1988, B.M. Eastman School of Music, 1986) has performed as double bassist with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra since 1987. He was the principal double bassist of the Chamber Orchestra of the Echternach Festival in Luxembourg. He is also a member of the Dayton Philharmonic Trio, a group he co-founded in 1998. He has performed with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Dayton Opera, Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, Cincinnati Broadway Series and the Heidelberg Castle Festival Orchestra in Heidelberg, Germany. He has given masterclasses at the Eastman School of Music.
Ullery received his bachelor's degree in music performance from the Eastman School of Music and his master's degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. His teachers include James VanDemark, Barry Green, Paul Robinson, Lawrence Hurst, James Lambert, Sidney Townsend and Deborah Taylor. In 1996 he co-founded the Prelude Strings Summer Chamber Music Festival in Dayton. Ullery has been the double bass instructor at the School for Creative and Performing Arts (Cincinnati) since 1987 and he is also very active in school outreach activities through the Dayton Philharmonic.
