Research Bio
Qihou Zhou is a Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. Since joining Miami in 2002, he has taught a wide range of classes from freshman to graduate level classes. These classes cover the areas of signal processing, probability and statistics, and circuits and electronics. He leads Miami’s effort on establishing a robust Robotics Engineering program. He is actively involved in establishing partnerships with international universities both at the undergraduate and graduate level.
He currently serves as the Chair of the ECE Department.
Dr. Zhou’s main research interests are in the areas of radar remote sensing, radar and biomedical signal processing, and space physics. He has published over 100 referred papers in highly ranked journals in his main research areas as well as in other areas including: applied optics, electromagnetics, artificial intelligence and public finance.
His research activities at Miami have been generously supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and other local and federal agencies.
He is well recognized internationally for his work in his main research areas. He received the 2007 Orwig Family Outstanding Research Award from the College of Engineering and Computing and the 2018 Distinguished Scholar award from Miami University.
Dr. Zhou obtained his B.S. from the Harbin Institute of Technology, China. He holds a MS and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering as well as a MA in Mathematics, all from the Pennsylvania State University.
Prior to coming to Miami, he was a research scientist at the Arecibo Observatory/National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center, which houses the most powerful radar in the world.
He is an active user of the Arecibo and other powerful radars for his research and study-away workshops.
