Biography
Michael C. Haughwout is an educator at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional School District in Rumson, New Jersey, where he teaches biology and AP environmental science. He earned his master’s from Miami University, as part of the Global Field Program in 2023. Through the GFP, Michael gained invaluable field experience in Baja, Namibia, Paraguay, and the Galápagos Islands, which helped to shape his approach for developing community science and student leadership programs. While much of Michael’s professional work focuses on the conservation of diamondback terrapins in New Jersey, he is also involved with the Vermilion Sea Institute in Baja, Mexico, where he contributes his expertise to community science initiatives. Outside of his professional commitments, Michael is an avid outdoor enthusiast, dedicating much of his free time to hiking and camping. He enjoys exploring nature alongside his cat, Westley, whenever possible.
