Why Miami University Regionals?
I graduated from Madison High School in 2020. I started taking College Credit Plus courses in my junior year and was full-time CCP by my senior year. [When it was time to choose a University] I knew I wanted to stay home. I met many of my friends [and] we all spent so much time studying and ordering food in the library. Those are my favorite memories.
How did you choose your major?
My inspiration came from my dad, who has worked in sales for his entire career. I grew up seeing him travel to all of these amazing places and meet all kinds of people. My other inspiration comes from my success working in food service and building relationships with customers. I love helping people get what they want, and when customers come back because they trust you, it is a rewarding experience.
How have any faculty, staff, or mentors at the University played a significant role in your journey?
Dr. Tammie Gerke (Geology), Paul Williams (Commerce), and Patrick Lindsay (Commerce). These professors have something in common. They care and truly want you to succeed and be the best at what you do.
Other Notable Experience
I moved to Belgium to join my husband who is in the Air Force. The military provides an excellent opportunity to live abroad. I came back [for graduation] because I did not have a high school graduation and wanted to have the experience for myself and my family. Finally getting to walk across the stage was a moment I will never forget. I felt proud and accomplished. It was well worth the journey.
Advice to Prospective Students
Be patient with yourself. Don’t rush to the end goal. Life will inevitably become more complicated as you leave high school and begin college. You are learning how to become an adult while trying to navigate student life. Take an in-person class when you can. Go to lunch with the person you sat next to. Stay after class and get to know the professor. You never know what will happen or what connections will come out of a simple conversation.
