Why did you choose Miami University Regionals?

I chose Miami Regionals because of the convenience. I was born and raised in Hamilton. I grew up half a mile from the Hamilton campus. I have seen the campus transition over the last 20 years. The one thing that remained the same was the overwhelming sense of family when I walked on campus. Every faculty member has gone above and beyond to assist in getting the most out of the resources available. The advisors really make a difference; they are invested and available for whatever is needed.

How did you choose your major?

I choose my major by sitting with an advisor and reviewing my Degree Audit Report, comparing my interests with the courses available. The biggest factor was being able to choose my own courses that interested me most.

How have any faculty, staff, or mentors at the University played a significant role in your journey?

Dr. Caryn Neumann was my advisor and she was amazing, interactive, responsive, knowledgeable, supportive, helpful, and encouraging. She was there every step of the way. She has an easy way of building mutual trust that encouraged me to be able to excel.

I took a leadership course taught by Chamina Curtis. It was a full circle moment for me. I started Miami in the early 2000 and I dropped her class because it seemed overwhelming. The class had a full roster. I took one of her classes in 2022, and this time I was determined to complete the class. This class dwindled down to six students and she showed up and conducted the class as if it was a packed house. This taught me to show up prepared to do my best no matter the circumstances.

What advice do you have for other students?

I would say keep going and don’t give up. It’s all worth it in the end. Take advantage of the countless resources available to help you succeed. Talk to your professors, they actually like it, and it’s what they are there for.
