Why Miami University?
I chose Miami University because it offers an outstanding bachelor’s program in Computer Information Technology, which aligns perfectly with my academic and career goals. I’m also excited about the opportunity to pursue my master’s degree in the same field through their integrated program. In addition to academics, I was drawn to the campus because of its strong athletic opportunities, especially in hockey and soccer. As someone who has played both sports for many years, I look forward to contributing to competitive and respected teams.
How did you choose your major?
I’ve always been into tech. Ever since I was a kid, I liked figuring out how things work and trying out simple coding projects. Over time, that interest just stuck with me. I didn’t pick this major because someone told me to. I picked it because it actually interests me. I want to learn how to use technology to solve real problems, and CIT felt like the right direction for that.
How have any faculty, staff, or mentors at the University played a significant role in your journey?
Dr. Geri Lynn Maples has definitely played a big role in my journey so far. From the start, she’s been really supportive and easy to talk to, and she explains things in a way that actually makes sense. Her classes made me feel more confident in what I’m learning, and it’s clear she genuinely cares about her students. Having someone like that early on really helped me feel more motivated and focused on my goals.
Advice to Prospective Students
Ask for help when you need it. Don’t try to do everything alone. Stay focused on your own goals, not what others are doing.
