Why Miami University?

I chose Miami because almost all of the teachers I admired while in k-12 school went to Miami, specifically the Regional campuses, and a lot of them told me how great the education program was. Now that I am in my junior year, I definitely do not regret my decision due to the wonderful education professors and my peers in my cohort.

How did you choose your major?

I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was in elementary school. I grew up loving school and admiring all of my kind and hard working teachers. Ever since I watched the movie, "Matilda" when I was young, I especially admired the character named "Ms. Honey". Ms. Honey was a teacher that was there for her students when no one else was. I hope to be someone's Ms. Honey one day.

Tell us about any special experiential learning opportunities -- research, study abroad/away, student organizations, internships, athletics, or other things -- that have influenced you in a positive way.

Over the summer I volunteered for a kindergarten readiness program for the Lane Library in Hamilton, Ohio. I worked with children who were going to be in kindergarten soon and it was an absolute joy. I taught them in small groups, connected with them, and read to them. It made me realize that I will enjoy this career.

What are your plans for after you graduate from Miami?

After I graduate, I plan to be an elementary school teacher and have my own classroom as soon as I can. Being an elementary school teacher has and always will be my dream job and passion.

If you had an opportunity to talk to a student considering coming to Miami, what would you tell them?

I would tell them to come because it is the best school around for education and social work majors. The regional schools specifically have amazing professors and it is very affordable.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about your Miami experience that we didn't cover?

My advisor and professor for the majority of my classes, Amie Earls, has made going here an amazing experience because she is an experienced and knowledgeable professor with so many tips and ideas about early childhood education. She is also the best advisor I have ever had and makes choosing my schedule easy. Her personality is also so fun and bubbly and makes all of her students excited to come to class everyday.
