Why Miami University?
I have always wanted to go to Miami. I wanted to stay local, and I knew Miami was a great school that offered amazing educational opportunities. While in high school, I took CCP classes through Miami and had always planned to continue my studies through Miami.
How did you choose your major?
I started school undecided, and during that time, I looked more into primary education. Speaking with family friends who work as teachers ultimately inspired me to pursue becoming a teacher myself.
Tell us about any special experiential learning opportunities -- research, study abroad/away, student organizations, internships, athletics, or other things -- that have influenced you in a positive way.
For the last two school years, I have volunteered every Friday in a kindergarten classroom at my old elementary school. It has been a great opportunity that has given me so much insight in a classroom setting. I am able to not only observe the class, but also get involved by working with students.
What are your plans for after you graduate from Miami?
After I graduate from Miami, I hope to become a first grade teacher.
If you had an opportunity to talk to a student considering coming to Miami, what would you tell them?
I would tell them that Miami is a great school with great opportunities. I have learned so much during my time here, and I love it. It is an amazing community, everyone I have met here has been so welcoming.
Is there anything else you'd like to share about your Miami experience that we didn't cover?
I am currently in a class at the Hamilton Campus that is held in a mock elementary classroom setting. We have a great setup designed by Amie Earls and Jennifer Mysona that allows us to get an experience as close to a real classroom as we can. We have so many materials in the class that we are expected to see in our future careers. It is extremely helpful when we are learning new techniques and concepts.
