Research on language development in autism has rarely included Deaf children, despite evidence that modality and parental hearing status shape the input autistic children receive

Prior work suggests that Deaf parents are particularly adept at gaining and maintaining their children's visual attention, which may scaffold lagnuage in unique ways

Objective: To characterize the modality, quantity, complexity, and functions of Deaf and hearing parent language input to their young autistic children during play-based interactions
