A65 - Sports Gambling Ads in the NBA Playoffs
Mentor(s): Adam Beissel
The research conducted in this study focuses on the concept of sports gambling and the implications that it could have on viewers with the new law changes with regard to sports gambling in many states. The general area of study is sports analytics. As stated in the intro, there have been some law changes that have changed the legality of sports betting and how it can be advertised. In this research project we seek to find exactly how much it is advertised in the NBA playoffs where viewership is high. We are also interested in finding some of the implications it has on viewers. The way this research will be conducted is by watching the full broadcast of NBA playoff games and counting how many sportsbook advertisements we see and then we will generate categorical data for further analysis. Since the NBA playoffs have not started yet we do not have results yet. Our next steps are to watch the NBA playoff games as they come up and then analyze the results we get from said games. This is important for my career because I would like to work in the sports industry and while this might not directly be what I want to do, however, learning analytical skills is crucial wherever I go in the sports industry.
