Mentor: Burcin Bayram, Ph.D.
Molecular spectroscopy studies the interactions of light and matter. In addition to electronic states, molecules can store energy by vibrating and rotating. These energies are quantized and lead to discrete rovibrational energy levels. With more ways of storing energy, molecules have more resonant wavelengths and therefore denser spectra compared to atoms.
