Physics education research is the study of how students learn physics (or have difficulty learning it), how instructors can improve their teaching, and how we can evaluate both the learning and the teaching. I work to help more students get into physics. Sometimes that’s reforming the curriculum for introductory classes, sometimes it’s working with K-12 science teachers, and sometimes it’s advocating for traditionally excluded populations.
