Biography

Jonathan (Jon) Maxey Assistant Lecturer, Farmer School of Business

Jonathan (Jon) Maxey is an Assistant Lecturer in the Farmer School of Business, teaching courses in BUS 102 and BUS 284. He joined Miami University in 2016 and became part of the First-Year Integrated Core (FYIC) in 2020. In 2025, he was appointed Assistant Lecturer at FSB. Jon brings over 21 years of combined experience in education, government, and the private sector.

Early in his career, Jon worked for the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he held roles in data analysis, program management, and training development. He also advised the Commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service on data management systems and Internal Revenue Manuals (IRMs). He later joined Marriott Business Services, collaborating with general managers, accountants, contractors, and customer service professionals.

While earning his ESL/EFL degree, Jon taught abroad in Dalian, China at Surrey International University and Dong Bei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE), where he also studied Mandarin. After completing his M.A. in English (Composition and Rhetoric), he taught for seven years at institutions including Indiana Institute of Technology, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, the University of Cincinnati, CCU, and Miami University. His teaching experience spans online, hybrid, and in-person courses in English/Composition, business communication, technical writing, film and literature, and creative writing.

Jon has served on academic and institutional committees focused on curriculum development, globalization, creative writing, technical writing, and business communication. His current research interests include international academic leadership, servant leadership, transformational leadership, and globalization.
