Outdoor Pursuits LLC

The Outdoor Pursuits Living Learning Community for first-year students is a dynamic community sponsored by the Outdoor Pursuit Center. This community is ideal for students who love the outdoors, have a sense of adventure, and want to learn more about outdoor activities.

Learning Outcomes

Community Information

Students will have the opportunity to participate in up to four different programs throughout the academic year.

Program Includes:

  • Fall Kick-Off Event: Adventure Race
  • Belay training at Miami University's Climbing Center
  • Low and High Challenge Course Experience
  • White water rafting overnight trip

Academic Course Description

EDL 290.R—The Nature of Group Leadership: First-Year Outdoor Pursuits (2 Credit Hours)

This course is an introduction to outdoor leadership. Students will focus on the building and development of community within the 1st Year Outdoor Pursuits Living Learning Community. Through activities in class, students are able to actively explore concepts such as team building, communication, trust, leadership, and risk-management. The course is also designed to give hands-on experience to develop outdoor related skills such as belaying, land navigation, fire building etc.

 

Programming Fee

Students accepted into this Living Learning Community will be charged a $175 program fee. The purpose of this program fee is to supplement the cost of the programs listed above. There are a limited number of scholarships available to cover the program fee. Scholarship application for 18–19
