New Social Justice Studies study away program delivers service and experiential learning for students
Department of Sociology and Gerontology chair Stephen Lippmann and visiting instructor of sociology, social justice studies, and journalism Mark Curnutte have created a service-based experiential learning program designed to give students an in-depth experience to build on the course content they learn during class.

Survey by Miami researchers finds communication is key for families of long-term care residents during COVID-19 visitation restrictions
Scripps Director of Research, Dr. Jane Straker and Scripps Research Associate, Dr. Mi Sun Choi recently conducted an online survey to find out how families and residents are staying in touch, and how families feel about new ways of communicating with the facility and the residents.

Psychology department houses new center to support and advocate for children and families of the incarcerated
Two psychology faculty have received funding to move forward with their department's new Center for the Study and Support of Children and Families of the Incarcerated (CSSCFI), which will conduct research on children with parents in prison and advocate for the needs of children of incarcerated parents and their caregivers.

Environmental activist Peggy Shepard shares how to address climate change in a just and equitable manner
On March 5, Peggy Shepard, co-founder and executive director of WE ACT for Environmental Justice, gave a talk entitled "Climate Justice: Addressing Climate Change in a Just and Equitable Manner," where she presented ways on how to address climate change impartially.
