Students will fabricate a frame from sterling silver to display their own colored pencil drawings. The drawings are held against the frame with tabs in the back so that very little of the image is cut off. Learning the technique of applying colored pencil to copper as well as refining soldering skills will be the focus of this weekend workshop to create a unique piece of wearable art.
At this time, enrollment for Hidden Findings Frame for Colored Pencil Drawings Pencil is closed.
Supplies are subject to change. A final list will be emailed to each participant before the first day of class.
Students do not need to bring anything to this class.
All workshops have a studio fee. Fees are collected at the end of the workshop and payable by check or credit card. MU no longer accepts cash.
Estimated studio fee for this workshop: $TBD*
*The final cost may vary depending on the actual cost of materials at the time of the workshop. It is possible for fees to be less or greater than the range indicated depending upon individual student usage.
Studio supply fees are an estimate and can be subject to change due to supply chain issues or transportation cost.
Nationally recognized designer, instructor and author from Cincinnati, Ohio, Mary Karg considers herself a wearable artist rather than a jewelry designer, specializing in lampwork, beadwork and metalwork. She seldom makes the same thing twice, although she will get hooked on something she can’t quit until the itch is totally scratched: Mask/Faces, dragged dots, windows, color pencil on metal, bead embroidery, and the current obsession, colored pencil on copper layered jewelry. Her book Layered Colored Pencil Jewelry was published in May 2017.
“Using colored pencil on metal allows me to push the boundaries of wearable art that produces results unlike any other method. Surprisingly both durable and lightweight, the layers of color and metal combine to form unique pieces of texture, depth and beauty. I love the reaction when people connect with my pieces – personal adornment is often an outward expression of intimate emotions and personality.”
