The first floor of Lewis Place has been transformed into a gallery space featuring nearly 30 pieces from the Department of Art—a department within the College of Creative Arts. Department of Art faculty, scholarship winners, and alumni submitted artworks during summer of 2022 for an installation and opening date for Miami’s homecoming weekend. With the success of the exhibition, the show was extended to the end of the semester—originally being planned for one month—with several other openings and showings of the artwork.
President Greg and University Ambassador Renate Crawford hosted the original art exhibition and open house with light refreshments on Sunday, Oct. 9, from 9-11 a.m. Since then, the Crawfords have planned several other events and openings throughout the semester.
“The turnout has been fantastic. It has surpassed expectations and because of that success, faculty, students, and alumni have been able to gain more visibility (with more openings and events connected to the exhibition than originally planned) and brought more enjoyment to Miami students and parents as well as the Oxford community,” Professor and Chair of the Art Department Amanda Alexander said. “It was great to see our students, alumni, and faculty’s work represented in such a beautiful location in the heart of campus and Oxford.”
The campus community was invited to attend the original and subsequent events connected to the exhibition. View a photo slideshow of the event at the top of the page.
