Miami University’s Humanities Center Steering Committee just announced Art and Humanities & Creative Arts (HCA) professor Roscoe Wilson as a 2023-2024 or “Environmental Justice” Altman Scholar.
As such, Wilson must uphold many different responsibilities ranging from but not limited to public presentation, team collaboration, and active curricular engagement. He will also help plan and implement the center’s programs.
With the honor, he earns $2,500 for the department to fund any professional scholarly activity in the 2023-25 academic years.
Since the main theme of his creative practice for the last 20 years centers around environmental issues and overconsumption, Wilson applied as soon as he read the topic.
“This was a perfect opportunity and I am honored to be a part of it,” Wilson said. “I am looking forward to brainstorming with fellow faculty scholars and being a part of the important conversations involved with environmental justice.”
Alongside Wilson, next year’s Altman faculty community includes Michele Navakas (English), Ryan Gunderson (sociology), Jacque Daugherty (WST), Michael Hatch (art history), Iñaki Pradanos (Spanish), Naaborle Sackeyfio (GIC), Jazma Sutton (history), and Hank Stevens (biology).
