Community-based Theatre to present multiple plays at the Oxford Community Arts Center
On April 2, 2024 at 6:00 p.m., the students of Theatre 393: “Community-based Theatre” will present “Heartbeats for the Earth: the Power of Humanity for Climate Solutions” at the Oxford Community Art Center on 10 South College Avenue. The presentation includes 4 short plays from the international Climate Change Theatre Action initiative. They include: “Appreciation” by Katie Pearl, “The Project Hope” by Catherine Banks, “When” by Wren Brian, and “The Pageant” by Paula Cizmar. Following the presentation, there will be a brief talk-back discussion. The performances explore how human beings might think about the past, present, and future to activate relationships, memories, and our imaginations to transform the planet. Questions engaged include: What is your earliest memory of the natural world? How do we sustain hope that leads to action? How does art-making help us cultivate the mindset we need to take action? This performance is free and open to the public.
This performance is in conjunction with the exhibition at the OCAC, “Changing Climate, Changing Communities.” The exhibition features student, community, and professional artworks that reflect the experiences of those in Oxford and beyond. The exhibition is sponsored by ECO, Engaging on Climate in Oxford, and represents a partnership between several community organizations devoted to sustainable practices and environmental action/awareness in our community.
