Department of Music to Host Double Reed Day
The event is for all ages and will take place April 6 from 9a.m.- 5p.m.
The Department of Music at Miami University will present its annual Double Reed Day on Saturday, April 6 from 9:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. in Presser Hall at 501 S. Patterson Avenue on the Oxford campus. Oboists and bassoonists of all ages are welcome! The day will be full of fun and enriching activities: reedmaking classes, performance masterclasses, and a Double Reed Band for all conducted by Dr. Glenn Harman of the International Double Reed Society Double Reed Bands. There will be an F. Lorée-Paris Youth Oboe Competition and Nielsen Bocal Supply Bassoon Competition with over $800 of prize money. The music is available on the website.
Special guest artists will be Russ de Luna, Solo English horn of the San Francisco Symphony, and Yoon Joo Hwang, Professor of Bassoon at the University of Central Florida. Emily Beare, Second Oboe of the Cincinnati Symphony will be a judge in the Lorée Youth Oboe Competition.
Many vendors will be present with instruments to try and many double reed items to purchase: Oboe Chicago, Double or Nothing Reeds, Nielsen Bocal Supply, Barton Cane, Fox Products, Jake Vidourek, oboe adjustments, and instrument repair, Weisberg Systems, LLC.
David N. Greenwald, author of the new book, "The Adjustments of the Oboe and English Horn" will give a special presentation about oboe adjustments.
Professor Andrea Ridilla, oboe, and Aaron Pergram, D.M.A. will be your friendly hosts.
