It’s A-live! (A live concert!) Miami University Symphony Orchestra Presents Frankenstein Halloween Concert
This Halloween, Miami University is bringing a classic monster back to life in a way you’ve never experienced before! The Miami University Symphony Orchestra will present its first-ever Halloween concert on Friday, October 31 at 7 p.m. in Hall Auditorium, in collaboration with Miami Activities and Programming (MAP).
The centerpiece of the evening will be the 1931 classic horror film Frankenstein, projected on the big screen while the orchestra performs a thrilling new soundtrack by composer Michael Shapiro — live, in real time.
But this isn’t just a concert — it’s a campus-wide celebration! Hall Auditorium will be transformed with Halloween decorations, and both audience and performers are encouraged to come in costume. The talented Professor Aaron Pergram (Department of Music) will serve as Master of Ceremonies, guiding the audience through the evening with wit, energy, and plenty of surprises. At select moments during the film, he will pause the action to lead interactive sketches — from a costume competition to special performances, including a dance by students from Dance Theatre.
Adding to the excitement, multiple Miami departments will join forces to bring the story of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to life. From exploring the novel’s enduring place in literature, to the ethical dilemmas of science and biology, to the Gothic imagery that has inspired generations of artists and filmmakers — this one-of-a-kind event will blend entertainment with education in the spirit of true interdisciplinary collaboration.
“This will be a signature event on campus,” said Ricardo Averbach, Director of Orchestral Studies. “We’re creating not only a fun Halloween tradition but also a meaningful experience that connects music, film, literature, science, and community.”
