Miami University Dance Director Ashley Goos selected for choreographic residency in Amsterdam

Ashley Goos, director of Dance and assistant teaching professor at Miami University, has been selected for a competitive week-long choreographic residency with ReMo Studio Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

During the residency, Goos and her artistic partner will spend five hours each day in the studio working with ReMo artists to develop new choreographic ideas through experimentation, collaboration, and feedback. The residency provides dedicated time and space for the artists to workshop and refine new work while exchanging ideas with an international community of dance professionals.

For Goos, the residency is also an opportunity to bring new perspectives and creative practices back to her students at Miami.

“I can’t wait to have the space, time, and support dedicated to making something new and then come back to share that experience with my students,” Goos said.

Goos plans to document the residency throughout the week, providing an opportunity to reflect on how the work develops and share elements of the creative process with Miami students when she returns.

As director of Dance, Goos leads Miami’s dance program and teaches students pursuing dance through the university’s new Bachelor of Arts in Performing Arts, which includes concentrations in Dance, Theatre, and Entertainment Design and Technology. The Dance concentration combines performance and choreography with interdisciplinary study, allowing students to pursue dance alongside other academic and professional interests.

The Amsterdam residency continues Goos’ work as both an educator and practicing dance artist, connecting her professional creative practice directly to the experiences she brings into the classroom.
