Miami has given me the opportunity to do internships like this, which has been an amazing experience. I don't think I would have thought to do it otherwise. I've gotten to meet architects and professionals in the architecture realm, like photographers, and just trying new things has been really great for my growth.

What is the Urban Leadership Internship Program?

ULIP is an internship program run by Miami University to connect students with community-based organizations to promote leadership and community advocacy, through summer internships.

Why did you choose to intern with Habitat for Humanity?

I'm most passionate about people and helping people. I like making sure people feel seen and heard and acknowledging their dignity. Especially with housing being such a crucial part of growth for people and families, helping them have a safe, healthy home that meets their needs.

How have your classes helped prepare you for this internship?

We've had lots of speakers come in—some professors and some people not affiliated with the university. They come in and talk about leadership, community, intersectionality, and community health care. All these types of topics kind of interplay with how people live.
