When I first was like looking at schools, Miami was the only school that supported me doing Theatre and engineering. I love how Miami really wants me to get like the education that I want.

Choosing a major

"My interest in engineering began back in high school when I was in a physics class. I fell in love with physics. And when I came to Miami, I actually was an undecided engineering major. I didn't know what I wanted to do in that field. So when we had CEC 111, that class where we touched on multiple different types of engineering, I fell in love with Mechanical Engineering and physically building stuff. Then when I found out about the management side of things and that I could do Engineering Management in Manufacturing, that felt like such a perfect place for me. Because with Engineering Management with a focus in Manufacturing, I'm a part of the design and I'm a part of the process, and I get to work through that while also being a vocal person that is in control of a project."

Support from the department

“I love how supportive the MME [Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering] department has been to me so far. The support I've had through my advisors has just been phenomenal. There's so many opportunities. And the professors really love what they're doing, so it's just really great to see how everyone's so excited about engineering and it makes me excited for it.”

Exploring multiple fields

"With Engineering Management, I get to express myself through designing and modeling things with 3D modeling programs. And then in the theatre world, I get to express my creativity through performance and art."

Communication skills in engineering

"I think it's important for engineers to have good communication skills. When you're working and you're brainstorming, it's sometimes not the easiest to explain what's going on in your head. So having good communication skills just makes that transition a lot easier for everyone to understand, because engineering is a group effort."
