Miami faculty and students publish study on critical literacies in language education

Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Inquiry faculty members Kelli Rushek and Katherine Batchelor, along with students Julia Beaumont, Ava Shaffer, and Delaney Barrett, have published a study in the Journal of Language and Literacy Education's spring 2024 issue. Their research, "VSCO Stickers Unpeeled: Engaging Critical and Multiliteracies Pedagogy with Preservice English Teachers," examines the impact of multimodal, intersectional, and critical feminist empowerment literacy curricula on English language arts preservice teachers.

The study reveals how these educators critically analyze pop-cultural texts and their influence on perceptions of girlhood and womanhood, showcasing the depth of critical literacies in understanding societal narratives and biases. This publication underscores the collaborative efforts between faculty and students at Miami University, reflecting their shared commitment to advancing literacy and education studies.
