Ganiva Reyes elected chair of AERA’s Critical Issues in Curriculum and Cultural Studies SIG
Ganiva Reyes, department chair and associate professor in Miami University’s Department of Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Inquiry, has been elected chair of the Critical Issues in Curriculum and Cultural Studies (CICCS) Special Interest Group (SIG) of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). Serving a two-year term, Reyes will lead the group’s efforts to foster innovative and transdisciplinary research on curriculum and cultural studies, promoting justice-oriented practices.
Previously the CICCS SIG program chair, Reyes looks forward to collaborating with the leadership team, including Program Chair Dr. Brittany Aronson, Treasurer Dr. Kirsten Robbins, and Secretary Dr. Racheal Banda, to organize the 2025 AERA annual meeting in Denver, Colorado.
AERA, a national research society founded in 1916, advances educational knowledge and encourages scholarly inquiry to improve education and serve the public good. The CICCS SIG has a longstanding tradition of pushing the boundaries of curriculum studies, prioritizing critical, feminist, and arts-based approaches to explore sociocultural and political questions.
