EHS recipients earn Hawk Tank grants for literacy training and community engagement

Two College of Education, Health and Society representatives were among the eight winners of Miami University’s 2025 Hawk Tank competition, hosted by the MIAMI Women Giving Circle.

Sarah Watt, associate professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, received $18,500 of funding for Unlocking the Joy of Reading through Structured Literacy Training, which prepares future teachers to support students with dyslexia using the Orton-Gillingham method.

Isaura Souza, a student in the Fostering Just Communities certificate program, earned a $20,000 grant for Experiential Learning for Miami Students and Cincinnati Youth, a project that connects Miami students with Cincinnati youth to collaborate on research and action addressing community issues.
