Spanish education student wins award for research on career text messaging

Miami University student Janelle Tipton, a Spanish education major, presented research at the Fall Undergraduate Summer Scholars Showcase on using text messages to help recent high school graduates connect to careers. Tipton’s presentation, guided by professor Leah Wasburn-Moses of the Department of Educational Psychology, won an award for interdisciplinary accessibility and creativity. The study found that 53% of participants said the texts made a difference in their job search, and 21% applied to one or more jobs as a result.
