Winners named in the Miami University 2023 Young Sculptors Competition for the $10,000 Yeck Award
Aida Lizalde is the winner of the 2023 Miami University Young Sculptors Competition for the $10,000 William (Miami '36) and Dorothy Yeck Award.
This biennial national competition is for U.S. artists ages 25-35. Winners of the competition, sponsored by Miami's Hiestand Galleries, College of Creative Arts, were announced at a ceremony Sept. 15 by the competition juror Terry Berlier, associate professor of Art and director of the sculpture studio at Stanford University and a 1994 Miami University alumna.

Lizalde was selected for their work Reciprocation / Morbid Relief. They received an MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2023. "Reciprocation / Morbid Relief" will become part of the Miami University Young Sculptors of the Twenty-First Century Collection.
Sang Woo Yoo, currently an MFA candidate at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, received the second-place award and $2,500 for "Portrait of Loss (dust)."
Gozie Ojini, currently an MFA candidate at Yale University, received the third-place award and $1,000 for "Save Your Breath (exhale)."
