Baylee Schmitt MFA ‘23 won the 2025 Young Sculptor's Competition for her work “Oak Table and Chairs,” (2023, crochet, yarn and wire)

Baylee Schmitt, MFA 23, is the winner of the 2025 Young Sculptors Competition for the $10,000 William (Miami 36) and Dorothy Yeck Award.

Winners of the competition, sponsored by Miami's Hiestand Galleries, College of Creative Arts, were announced at a ceremony Sept. 26 by the competition juror Sohrabb Mohebbi, director of New York’s SculptureCenter. This biennial national competition is for U.S. artists ages 25-35. This year’s competition focused on representational realism sculpture. 

Schmitt was selected for her work “Oak Table and Chairs” (2023), which will become part of the Miami University Yeck Collection of 21st Century Painting and Sculpture. Schmitt received her Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Miami and is currently printmaking lab manager at the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. 

Josh Rabineau received the second-place award and $2,500 for his work “Welcome to the Peep Show.” He is a Master of Fine Arts in sculpture candidate at Yale University. 

Katelyn Reece Farstad received the third-place award and $2,000 for her work “The Road.” She received a Master of Fine Arts from Hunter College CUNY in 2025. 

The Young Sculptors Competition exhibition is on view at the Hiestand Galleries through Oct. 6.
