Board of Trustees actions include approval of new multipurpose arena; promotion and tenure
February meeting sees promotion and tenure granted for 32 faculty members and three librarians
Miami University’s Board of Trustees approved a resolution authorizing the construction of a new multipurpose arena at Cook Field, along with the promotion and/or tenure of 32 faculty members and three librarians during its Feb. 27 board meeting.
The board authorized up to $281 million on the construction of the new arena.
The promotion and tenure actions take effect July 1.
“It is a privilege to recognize these outstanding educators and scholars for their achievements and commitment to their disciplines,” said Chris Makaroff, interim provost and executive vice president of academic affairs. “Their contributions in the classrooms, labs, and cross-disciplinary learning spaces are helping to develop the next generation of thought leaders and elevating Miami’s teacher-scholar model. I’m honored to work alongside them to advance our mission of student success.”
The board also approved the merger between the Department of French, Italian, and Classical Studies and the Department of German, Russian, Asian, and Middle Eastern Languages into the Department of World Languages and Cultures, as well as the restructuring and reorganization proposal of Miami Regionals.
Other trustee actions included:
- The approval of one to the rank of professor emerita and three to the rank of professor emeritus;
- A resolution establishing the tenure process for the Miami University Center for Civics, Culture, and Society;
- The approval of a plan to meet American Civil Literacy course requirement;
- The approval of a curricular plan;
- Authorizing changes to the Senate Enabling Act;
- The approval of an Engineering Technology associate degree in Applied Science and a Mechatronics Engineering Technology associate degree in Applied Science;
- A resolution authorizing actions related to requesting approval from the Ohio Department of Higher Education for the issuance of general receipts bonds; and
- Authorizing the awarding of contracts for the Summer 2027 Utility Projects not to exceed $4 million.
