Miami’s application fee waiver deadline helps better position prospective students throughout process

Dec. 1 is priority deadline for scholarships

Miami University’s application fee waiver deadline of Dec. 1 simplifies the application process, helps ease the financial burden on families, and highlights an important date for prospective students.

Dec. 1 marks the priority deadline for scholarships and selective admission programs. Miami’s fee waiver encourages applicants to be in the best possible position regarding those key targets, said Lindsey Holden, senior director of undergraduate admission.

“This sets up students for the best possible admission decision they can make,” Holden said. “We know students are applying for more and more colleges. Getting relief from some of those application fees is certainly helpful for families as they think about college.”

ACT or SAT test scores also are optional among Miami’s first-year student application requirements.

Offering a fee waiver removes a potential hurdle. Students who submit after Dec. 1 are still considered for scholarships as they are available.

“We want to make sure that fee isn’t what is keeping someone from considering Miami,” Holden said. “Meeting that priority deadline really puts students in the best spot to get the best offer we can possibly give them at that time.”

Holden said this is the second year Miami has offered its application fee waiver by the Dec. 1 deadline.

Miami is No. 26 nationally among public research universities for four-year graduation rate, ranked No. 5 among Honors Colleges by College Transitions, and considered the No. 19 public college for future leaders according to Time magazine.

“It is something we evaluate every year,” Holden said of the application fee waiver. “Making sure students take advantage of those deadlines in the application process can be really important along the way.”

Established in 1809, Miami University is located in Oxford, Ohio, with regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown, a learning center in West Chester, and a European study center in Luxembourg.
