About Emily
As Program Coordinator, Emily advises Honors students whose primary majors are CAS Biological Sciences and College of Engineering and Computing, in addition to designing the communications from the Honors College. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Kansas, and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University - Santa Barbara. Emily is a lifelong artist with professional experience spanning Clinical Psychotherapy, K-12 Art Education, antique furniture caning, and Sustainable Agriculture. This interdisciplinary path shapes her holistic, student-centered approach to academic advising.
She sees college as more than an academic course of study; it's a pivotal stage of identity formation and discovery. She encourages honors students, who bring a wide range of interests and talents, to embrace their multipotentiality through exploration, intellectual risk-taking, and openness to evolving goals and experiences.
When she is out of the office, Emily can be found working in the garden, in the ceramics studio with her partner (Miami University Assistant Professor Richard W. James), or experimenting with new artmaking techniques like gel block printing, digital drawing, or intarsia knitting.
