Teaching and Interests
Geri Lynn Maples is a 2012 Graduate of Miami University, earning a Bachelor of Integrative Studies degree. She earned her Master of Arts in Human Service Counseling: Military Resilience from Liberty University in 2014 and a Doctor of Philosophy with a Major Educational Studies in 2019 from Union Institute and University. That same year, she joined the Computer Information and Technology Department as an Adjunct Professor.
She is also the Military Spouse and caregiver to her husband, Robert, who served in the United States Army and the Ohio National Guard for over 20 years. Since her spouse’s return home from Operation Iraqi Freedom, she has dedicated her career to assisting others in understanding the uniqueness of the military way of life both during and after service. She served as the Military and Veterans Family Program Director with Union Institute and University and helped develop the university’s inaugural Military and Veteran Program. She is the 2020 Elizabeth Dole Fellow for Ohio, the Chapter Director for Blue Star Families of Dayton and Southwestern Ohio, served as the Vice-Chair with the Strategic Ohio Council on Higher Education (SOCHE) Veterans Committee, and is viewed as a leader by those who support the military community within the Southwestern Ohio region.
Her current scholarship interests are creating access to education and career pathways.
