Unlocking What’s Next with Workday Student

As you are aware, we are preparing to make a major leap forward in how we manage the student experience, from course registration and advising to transcripts and academic progress. Beginning with the implementation of Workday Student as our new system of record, this change marks a strategic and necessary transformation in our administrative technology landscape. But why Workday, why now, and what’s at risk if we don’t move forward?

Why Workday Student?

After thorough evaluation, we selected Workday Student for our modern, cloud-based design and its ability to support our institution’s evolving academic and operational needs. Unlike our current systems, Workday Student offers:

  • Real-time data access for students, faculty, and staff in a single system
  • A user-friendly interface across devices
  • Integrated functionality with Workday’s HCM and Financials modules

This next-generation platform will unify data into one system, support flexible academic models, and empower Miami to provide a seamless, intuitive experience for students from admission to graduation.

Why Now?

As academic offerings grow more complex and student expectations evolve, our legacy systems lack the agility and user experience required to keep pace. Delaying change risks:

  • Administrative inefficiencies that slow down critical processes like registration and degree auditing
  • Poor user experience for students and faculty navigating clunky interfaces
  • Compliance gaps and data silos that complicate reporting and hinder decision-making

By moving now, we align with a broader industry trend and ensure we’re ready for the future of higher education.

The Risk of Not Changing

Sticking with the status quo is not a neutral choice. Without this upgrade, Miami faces rising maintenance costs, increased dependence on shrinking pools of legacy system experts, and a growing disconnect between the needs of modern learners and the tools we provide. Failing to act would undermine our ability to remain competitive and responsive in a rapidly shifting educational landscape.

Looking Ahead

Transitioning to Workday Student is more than a technology upgrade. It’s a commitment to modernizing the way we serve our students, support our staff, and shape the future of higher education at Miami University. This change won’t happen overnight, but it will be worth it for everyone who learns, teaches, and works here.
