The Department offers a minor in Ethics, Society, and Culture and a minor in Philosophy and Law. To sign up for a minor, please contact the Chief Departmental Advisor.

The minor in Ethics, Society, and Culture is a good choice for students who are unable to complete the major, but are interested in philosophical thinking about morality, ethics, politics, aesthetics, culture and more generally about the meaning of living in a human world with others. This minor is a particularly good choice for students with interest in medical school and/or law school.

  • Please follow the link to the General Bulletin for the most updated course requirements.

The minor in Philosophy and Law offers students not majoring in philosophy the opportunity to explore key features of legal reasoning and the philosophy of law, and to connect these broader themes in social and political theory.

  • Please follow the link to the General Bulliten for the most updated course requirements.

Additionally, the Department occasionally offers special topics courses, and honors courses, in areas appropriate to both of these minors. These may be used in fulfillment of a requirement upon successful petition to the Department.
