Biographical Information

Carolyn Keiffer is a plant ecologist primarily interested in restoration ecology and forest biodiversity. She has done extensive restoration work with The American Chestnut Foundation and serves as the Ohio State President and National Board Member for this group. Reforestation of abandoned landfills, coal fields, and contaminated areas are of particular interest. Additionally, other projects involving invasive species control using mechanical and biological methods are ongoing. Undergraduate students interested in local plant communities have participated in many independent studies as well as being part of a team for larger restoration activities. A side interest involves the maintenance and improvement of the urban canopy and Dr. Keiffer has been a member of the Tree City USA program for more than a decade. Dr. Keiffer is passionate about Involving students in community service projects and many of her students are active in local parks, arboretums and nature sanctuary projects.
