Welcome from the Dean
It is my pleasure to welcome you to our website for the School of Creative Arts at Miami University. This is an exciting and dynamic place where you will find professional artists and scholars who are engaged nationally and internationally, bringing first-hand knowledge and experience to their studios and classrooms. Our mission is to provide the highest level of professional training and education in the arts within the context of an academically challenging university. The balance of professional education and training with the liberal arts prepares our undergraduate and graduate students for successful careers, while enabling them to serve as important contributors to their communities as artistic citizens.
In the early 21st Century, it is more apparent than ever that creativity and artistic knowledge are sought after and required not only in visual and performing areas, but also in industry, media, communications, merchandising, and entrepreneurship. Miami University graduates in the arts will be prepared to lead new and emerging frontiers, while drawing from the knowledge they have gained in the traditional classical arts, complemented by experience with new pedagogies and technologies.
The departments and programs of the School of Creative Arts strive to create world-class opportunities for our students within and beyond the classroom. Our students have recently performed in concert at Carnegie Hall, represented the State of Ohio in the Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C., and received prestigious awards and fellowships in art, architecture, design, music, and theatre. We can also measure our success by the standing of our alumni, who represent some of the leading figures in the arts, architecture, and design nationally and internationally.
