Interfraternity Council Presidents

The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the umbrella organization for recognized fraternities on campus. IFC consists of one representative from each fraternity and an executive board of 10 annually elected officers.

The Miami University IFC has been recognized as one of the most outstanding fraternal governing councils in the nation. Opportunities to become involved with IFC are open to all interested fraternity members. Fraternity Recruitment Eligibility Requirements

  • one full-time fall or spring semester
  • 12 credit hours with at least a 2.5 minimum grade point average
  • the two part on-line education course prior to the start of recruitment

Membership of Fraternities or Sororities at Miami University (Student Handbook 5.3.C)

All Governing Councils, fraternities, and sororities may establish standards of membership including, but not limited to, credit hour and grade point average requirements. To affiliate with a fraternity or sorority:

  1. A student must have completed, at MIami University or other accredited institution of higher education:
    1. one full-time fall or spring semester.
    2. 12 credit hours with at least a 2.5 minimum grade point average.
    3. the two part on-line education course prior to the start of recruitment
  2. All potential members/candidates for membership must have their eligibility verified through the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life prior to the chapter extending any form of invitation to membership.
  3. Once membership has been gained to a fraternity or sorority, it is up to each chapter to determine an individual's requirements to maintain membership.

Other Requirements

  • Winter or J-Term grades and credit hours will be be counted in determining recruitment eligibility.
  • To be eligible to participate in Fraternity Recruitment and a Spring New Member Program, these requirements must be met by the end of the fall academic term. For those participating in Winter Term courses, grades must be verified before chapter can formally extend a bid through Campus Director.
  • New Member Orientation course must be completed prior to the beginning of recruitment to be eligible to participate. This online course is a two part module that covers the benefits of joining the fraternity and sorority community and the expectations of joining Miami Greek Life. This will be completed through the Canvas platform.
  • Special conditions apply for those who join a fraternity and seek to be exempted from living on campus in the residence halls. Learn more about the Fraternity Exemption.

4:00pm - 7:00pm, Wilks Theater and Fritz Pavilion, Armstrong Student Center

Last name starts with an A-L: Your kick off will take place in the Pavilion located on the third floor of Armstrong.

Last name starts with a M-Z: Your kick off will take place in the Wilks Theater located on the first floor of Armstrong.

**For those men who have already finalized travel plans for winter break and will not be returning until after this program has begun please contact the Interfraternity Council at ifcrecruit@miamioh.edu for alternate plans**

Open Houses

January 28 - February 2, 2018

Visit the chapter houses of the organizations you are interested in learning more about. IFC will provide Recruitment Guides to help you navigate the open house rounds and answer any questions you may have. At 7:30pm, houses will clear and potential new members should not return to any house that they visited during the first half of the open house.

Bids can be given starting at 10pm on Monday, Jan 28.

Final Open House

February 2 - 11:00am - 2:00pm

Continue to visit chapter houses that are still open for formal recruitment. At 7:30pm, houses will clear and potential new members should not return to any house that they visited during the first half of the open house.

Please confirm with your Recruitment Guide on which chapters are still open.

Your bid for membership must be ACCEPTED on CampusDirector by 5:00 PM on Sunday, February 3, 2019.

Timeline for Joining an IFC Fraternity

Fall Semester

Fall programs are not mandatory for students to participate in Formal Recruitment, but it is strongly encouraged. IFC is providing more opportunities to meet the different chapters in the fall well in advance of formal recruitment. If you want to make the most of your fall, attend a fall IFC Kick-Off or Go Greek 101 session and visit 7 different chapters' Open House events! If criteria is met, you do not have to participate on Sunday, January 27th for the IFC Fraternity Recruitment Kick-Off and Meet the Chapter Presentations.

August 29 - Mega Fair

Come out and meet all the chapters at Mega Fair!
