Interfraternity Council

The Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the umbrella organization for recognized fraternities on campus. IFC consists of one representative from each fraternity and an executive board of 10 annually elected officers.

The Miami University IFC has been recognized as one of the most outstanding fraternal governing councils in the nation. Opportunities to become involved with IFC are open to all interested fraternity members. Fraternity Recruitment Eligibility Requirements

  • You must have completed 12 credit hours of classes at Miami University or another college or university.
  • You must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
  • You must attend an IFC Kick-Off Session or Go Greek 101 Session.
  • You must meet membership requirements outlined in the Miami University Student Handbook

Membership of Fraternities or Sororities at Miami University (Student Handbook 5.3.C)

All Governing Councils, fraternities, and sororities may establish standards of membership including, but not limited to, credit hour and grade point average requirements. To affiliate with a fraternity or sorority:
  1. Minimum Eligibility Requirements
    1. Students whose most recent college courses were completed at Miami University:
      • Be enrolled as a full-time student (carry at least 12 credit hours) on the Oxford campus of Miami University.
      • Have completed one semester of college (completed 12 credit hours) at Miami University.
      • Have an established minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.5 from Miami University.
      • Complete the two-part online education course prior to the start of recruitment.
    2. Students who are transferring and whose most recent college courses are from an accredited college or University:

      • Be enrolled as a full-time student (carry at least 12 credit hours) on the Oxford campus of Miami University.
      • Have completed one semester of college as a full-time student at an accredited university or college (completed 12 credit hours or equivalent to a full-time student).
      • Have an established minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.5 from the accredited university or college.
      • Have submitted a transcript from the transfer institution to the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life to verify credit hours and cumulative GPA.
      • Complete the two-part online education course prior to the start of recruitment.
  2. All potential members/candidates for membership must have their eligibility verified through the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Leadership prior to the chapter extending any form of invitation to membership.
  3. Once membership has been gained to a fraternity or sorority, it is up to each chapter to determine an individual’s requirements to maintain membership.

Other Requirements

  • Winter or J-Term grades and credit hours will be be counted in determining recruitment eligibility.
  • To be eligible to participate in Fraternity Recruitment 2018 and a Spring New Member Program, these requirements must be met by the end of Fall 2017's academic term. For those participating in Winter Term courses, grades must be verified before chapter can formally extend a bid through Campus Director.
  • New Member Orientation course must be completed prior to the beginning of recruitment to be eligible to participate. This online course is a two part module that covers the benefits of joining the fraternity and sorority community and the expectations of joining Miami Greek Life. This will be completed through the Canvas platform. 
  • Special conditions apply for those who join a fraternity and seek to be exempted from living on campus in the residence halls. Learn more about the Fraternity Exemption.

Recruitment Kick-Off and Meet the Chapters (Attendance Required) 

Sunday, January 28
4:00pm - 7:00pm, Wilks Theater and Fritz Pavilion, Armstrong Student Center

Last name starts with an A-L: Your kick off will take place in the Pavilion located on the third floor of Armstrong.

Last name starts with a M-Z: Your kick off will take place in the Wilks Theater located on the first floor of Armstrong.

**For those men who have already finalized travel plans for winter break and will not be returning until after this program has begun please contact the Interfraternity Council at ifcrecruit@miamioh.edu for alternate plans**

Open Houses

January 29 - February 2, 2018

Visit the chapter houses of the organizations you are interested in learning more about. IFC will provide Recruitment Guides to help you navigate the open house rounds and answer any questions you may have. At 7:30pm, houses will clear and potential new members should not return to any house that they visited during the first half of the open house.

Bids can be given starting at 10pm on Monday, Jan 29.


Final Open House

February 3 11:00am - 2:00pm

Continue to visit chapter houses that are still open for formal recruitment. At 7:30pm, houses will clear and potential new members should not return to any house that they visited during the first half of the open house.

Please confirm with your Recruitment Guide on which chapters are still open.

Your bid for membership must be ACCEPTED on CampusDirector by 5:00 PM on Monday, February 5, 2018.

Timeline for Joining an IFC Fraternity

Fall Semester

Fall programs are not mandatory for students to participate in Formal Recruitment. IFC is providing more opportunities to meet the different chapters. If you want to make the most of your fall, attend a fall IFC Kick-Off or Go Greek 101 session and visit 7 different chapter’s Open House events! If criteria is met, you do not have to participate on Sunday, January 28th for the IFC Fraternity Recruitment Kick-Off and Meet the Chapter Presentations.

August​ ​30​ - Mega Fair

Come out and meet all the chapters at Mega Fair!
  • Central Quad | 6:00pm - 9:00pm

September 5 - Go Greek 101 Session IFC Chapter Open Houses

First attend the Go Greek 101 session followed by open houses. Each chapter facility or designated location will be open for you to meet chapter members.
