Bargaining Update May 22, 2024

The University and the Faculty Union met on May 22, 2024, to continue collective bargaining negotiations for the first faculty contract. The Union presented a counter proposal on Appointment, Renewal and Promotion of TCPL Faculty, which adopts the Union’s prior proposals on Eligibility for Tenure and Promotion, Promotion Tenure and Time, and TCPL Professional Development Plans. By incorporating the language from those prior proposals into its Appointment, Renewal and Promotion of TCPL Faculty proposal, the Union has now aligned with the University’s proposed framework for addressing appointments, promotions and renewals in the contract. The Union also presented a counter proposal on Faculty Evaluations, which incorporates the Union’s prior proposal on Evaluation of Teaching, as well as counter proposals on Appointments and Discipline and Discharge.

The union also confirmed that its prior proposals on Eligibility for Tenure and Promotion, Promotion Tenure and Time, TCPL Professional Development Plans and Evaluation of Teaching are withdrawn.

The University presented counter proposals on Grievance and Arbitration, Management Rights, Appointment and Promotion of Tenured-Track and Tenured Faculty, Outside Employment and Professional Activities and Appointments. The University bargaining team also discussed with the union its intent to preserve all management rights granted to the University under Ohio’s Employee Public Collective Bargaining Act.

The parties’ next bargaining session is scheduled for June 5, 2024, at Miami’s West Chester Voice of America Learning Center.
