Bargaining Update January 3, 2025
The University and the Union met on Jan. 3 at the Staff Development Center in Oxford to continue negotiations.
Prior to the Jan. 3 session, on Dec. 18, the University hosted a session with representatives from the Union’s bargaining team to discuss the University’s benefits plan structure so that the parties could become more aligned on the Benefits proposal. The Union’s bargaining team also sent the University a package proposal on Management Rights, Association Rights, and Intellectual Property with an agreement to withdraw Shared Governance as part of the package prior to the Jan. 3 session. The Union agreed to the University’s language on Intellectual Property.
During the Jan. 3 bargaining session, the University presented a package counter proposal on Management Rights, Association Rights, and Intellectual Property. The University’s package proposal was, again, contingent on the Union withdrawing its Shared Governance proposal. The University’s counter proposal provided clarifying language related to workload equivalencies for service credit in Association Rights and also incorporated provisions of the Ohio Ethics Law, commonly referred to as the “Revolving Door Law,” to provide transparency regarding confidentiality and representative capacity. The University also presented counter proposals on Financial Exigency and Academic Reorganization and Benefits.
The Union presented a package counter proposal on Leaves, Faculty Evaluations, Performance Improvement Plans, and Compensation. The Union requested that the University clarify its intention related to period career review in Faculty Evaluations. Additionally, the Union modified the structure of its Compensation proposal in response to the parties’ discussion at the Dec. 10 bargaining session.
The Union presented a package counter proposal to the University on Management Rights, Association Rights, and Intellectual Property. The Union agreed to the University’s Management Rights proposal, which brings the parties closer to an agreement on those articles. The Union also responded to the University’s counter proposals on Financial Exigency and Academic Reorganization and Benefits.
The University remains hopeful that the parties will continue to move closer to reaching agreement on the substantive issues between the parties and the University remains committed to negotiating in good faith with the Union.
The parties are scheduled to meet again on Jan. 14.
