Faculty Guide for Students with Disabilities

A collaborative effort of the Miller Center for Student Disability Services (SDS), Office of the Provost, and AccessMU Center, this guide has been developed to help faculty and academic advisors enable students with disabilities to find their place at Miami, engage with the community, and succeed and reach academic and personal success.

The Office of the Provost supports faculty in delivering a high quality liberal arts education that prepares students for global citizenship. The office upholds the university’s commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment that engages all learners, including students with disabilities.

The Miller Center for Student Disability Services (SDS) coordinates services and reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities to ensure equal access to education and university life. SDS is proactive in its efforts to support university compliance with federal laws such as Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAA). The office determines student eligibility for accommodations and partners with university departments to coordinate the provision of reasonable accommodations.

AccessMU Center works to create a more accessible environment by providing information and services to enhance equal access for students with and without disabilities. Responsibilities include the accessibility review and testing of applications, websites, and documents; accessibility training; and captioning support services.

Collectively, the Office of the Provost, SDS, and AccessMU are committed to advancing and sustaining an environment of equity, diversity and inclusiveness for all members of the University community. We invite you to join us in this effort.
