SPA Senior Receives CAS Dean Scholar Award
Mia Anzilotti, a senior majoring in SPA, was awarded the CAS Dean's Scholar Award for the 2021-22 academic year.
Mia Anzilotti, a senior majoring in SPA, was awarded a prestigious College of Arts & Science Dean’s Scholar award for the 2021-2022 academic year. This award provides course credit and a research stipend to complete a research project and present it at a conference. Mia’s project is titled Critically Evaluating Apps Used to Teach Phonological Awareness to Young Children, and is being mentored by Dr. Olszewski. In this project, Mia will evaluate the most popular apps available on the Apple App Store for teaching phonological awareness, and important early literacy skill. She will develop and use a rubric that measures the apps based on educational content, design, functionality, and technical characteristics. These results will help educators and parents to choose appropriate early literacy apps to use with their children. Mia will present her findings at the Undergraduate Research Forum. She and Dr. Olszewski also plan to submit a proposal to present the results of the project at the ASHA Schools Connect Conference in 2022.
