MJF to honor its remarkable graduates with its annual Distinguished Alumni Careers Panel

The Department of Media, Journalism and Film will be welcoming back five alumni to participate in a Distinguished Alumni Careers Panel on April 3 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. This event will take place at Ludwin Studio in Williams Hall, 107C.

Students of all majors are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and network with alumni about the different career paths that MJF has enabled them to follow.

Joining the careers panel are five Miami University alumni with degrees ranging from Journalism, Media Management, and Mass Communication:

  • Jon Gambrell ‘04, Journalism
  • Barry Kirschner ‘92, Media Management
  • Candace Kuo ‘04, Mass Communication
  • Megan Moloney ‘91, Mass Communication
  • Jamie Ramsey ‘99, Mass Communication
Gambrell is the news director for Gulf and Iran for The Associated Press. As a foreign correspondent with over a decades worth of experience, students interested in a career in journalism can connect with Gambrell over his coverage of the rise of Boko Haram in Nigeria, the war in Afghanistan, the rise and fall of the Islamic State group and most recently, Russia’s war on Ukraine where Gambrell and his team have been awarded a top internal award granted by The Associated Press.

Kirschner served as the director of distribution (affiliate sales) at Showtime Networks, and students will be able to learn of his professional journey of over 20 years in the media and entertainment industry, which stemmed from his high school passion for working at a movie theater.

Kuo currently holds the esteemed title of senior producer at NBC News, where she manages business and technology content for all video and streaming platforms. Students will be able to inquire about Kuo’s work as a producer for CBS “This Morning” and the primetime special “39 Days” which, between the two, won an Edward R. Murrow Award and two Emmys.

As a well-rounded communications professional, Moloney is vice president for marketing and communications at Transylvania University. Students will be able to gain insight into her experience ranging from federal government media and public relations, radio and television reporter and producer and director, where she was granted a regional Emmy Award along with several Ohio Associated Press awards.

Starting out as a member of the Cinergy Fields ground crew, Ramsey is now the director of media relations and digital content for the Cincinnati Reds and is also the author and host of the Reds’ blog and podcast, “Better Off Red.” He has worked five National League Championship Series during his occupancy of over 25 seasons.

The MJF Distinguished Alumni Panel is made possible through sponsors from the Diana Stark Speaker Series in Journalism and the Helem Sieglin Endowment Fund.
