Miami to host alumni Paul Ryan, Shefali Razdan Duggal for Fall 2026 JANUS Forum
‘Two Miamians, One Ballot: Lives of Public Service’ is Oct. 13 at Wilks Theater
One of Miami University’s signature events of the year has upped the ante once more, welcoming alumni Paul Ryan ’92 and Shefali Razdan Duggal ’93 as the featured guests of its Fall 2026 JANUS Forum, “Two Miamians, One Ballot: Lives of Public Service.”
The biannual event, this time held Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 6:30 p.m. inside Wilks Theater, is free to attend but requires registration. Admission is open to the public.
This one is especially groundbreaking for both the magnitude of the guests and the first time in Miami’s JANUS Forum history (since fall 2013) to have two university alumni. Razdan Duggal and Ryan have proudly shared their lifelong friendship, which began on the Oxford campus.
Razdan Duggal served as the United States’ ambassador to the Netherlands from 2022-25 under President Joe Biden, following multiple appointments under President Barack Obama. She was born in India, moved to Cincinnati at 2 years old and matriculated to Miami from Sycamore High School. She majored in Mass Communication with a minor in Political Science.
Ryan was a Political Science and Economics double major as a Miami student and enjoyed a meteoric rise in politics, culminating in 2012 as Mitt Romney’s running mate in the presidential election and an appointment as the Speaker of the House of Representatives in 2015. He was elected to the House only six years after his Miami graduation.
MORE ON THE JANUS FORUM
The JANUS Forum provides a place for members of the community to come together and discuss opposing views freely and passionately, and where students can explore the multitude of views that exist, and then arrive at their own opinions. It is a catalyst for developing timely, interesting, and rigorous discussion of public affairs. The forum is sponsored by the Department of Political Science thanks to the generous support of Thomas W. Smith (Miami ’50) and Miami’s Menard Family Center for Democracy.
