Miami geology students, faculty enjoy strong showing at national conference
The Miami University Department of Geology and Environmental Earth Science headed west and left a lasting impact on the Geological Society of America (GSA) Connects 2026 conference this fall.
The department boasted 23 overall presentations, spanning individual and group presentations among undergraduates, grad students, and faculty members. The contingent had the privilege of elite networking within the field as well as a trip to the renowned Mines Museum of Earth Science.
“This meeting allows our undergraduate and graduate students to convey their scientific findings, identify the wide range of opportunities for geoscientists in the U.S. today, and connect with alumni who work all over the country,” Department Chair Jason Rech said.
Miami’s research spanned from summer monsoons in Kuwait to current-era environmental site assessments for drinking-water in India, as well as stateside investigations in Oklahoma, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
