James Veregge, On majoring in German and International Studies

Why Miami?

Miami had a truly gorgeous campus, and was one that really put me into the mindset of being in a full academic environment. Another factor is that it allowed me to have independence from home whilst still being within reach.

How did you choose your major?

My major hasn't always been these two. I originally started with a Global Politics major, but decided that it did not encompass all that I wanted to see. That when I was introduced to International Studies and really found the joy in it! As for my German major, I had intended to only get a minor in it, but found that it was also another passion of mine that connected me with so many of my friends overseas, and led me to grow as a person.

Key Moment at Miami

The German department has honestly done so much for me. I got to do an entire academic year in Munich, Germany where I lived and truly got to experience the culture. But I could not have done it without the support of Professor Ganeva and Grimm who really encouraged me to chase after it. I will never forget the time I had there.

What are your career goals?

I want to pursue a career in MI work specifically, and later branch off into the private sector of intelligence.
